CAN WE MEET YOU SIR?

I am Joel Uche by name. I am a student of Lead City University, Ibadan and also a graphics designer.

WHAT LEVEL ARE YOU?

I am in my final year

WHAT ARE YOU STUDYING IN THE UNIVERSITY?

I am studying computer science And Education.

DURING The INTRODUCTION, YOU SAID YOU ARE A GRAPHIC DESIGNER, WHEN DID YOU NOTICE THAT YOU COULD ACTUALLY DESIGN GRAPHICS?

I believe that was in 100 level. A friend of mine wanted a simple logo to use for an advert and I didn’t know how to go about it. I then attempted to work on it and found that I had a knack for it. It more or less came easy to me and from then I started working on it.

WHAT GAVE YOU THE INSPIRATION TO GO INTO GRAPHICS DESIGN?

Oh I would say that it was my environment. Everywhere I looked, I saw an image or design that no one else could . Be it on the wall patterns, cloud movement , and so on. Then I wanted more than anything to bring to life what I had seen.

ASIDES FROM GRAPHICS DESIGN, IS THERE ANY AREA YOU ALSO VENTURE INTO AS A STUDENT?

Yes, I’m also into Computer hardware and Software repairs as well as programming.

WHEN YOUR PARENTS REALISED THAT YOU COULD DO GRAPHICS DESIGN, WHAT WERE THEIR REACTIONS?

Well, their reactions were very encouraging. They were really happy. My dad was especially surprised actually. He always advised me to learn more than one skill.

AS THE WORK KEPT ON GROWING, WHAT WERE THE CHALLENGES YOU FACED FROM PEOPLE?

Well I think the major challenge I faced from people is that they really don’t know what they want and had no idea of what they are looking for. This also affects me because when there is no idea of what they want , I am therefore tasked with producing or designing something to suit their wants.

TEXTS PLAY A VITAL ROLE AND SIGNIFICANCE IN PASSING ACROSS MESSAGES TO CUSTOMERS, HOW TRUE IS THIS?

Yes, it’s very true because it affects the attention of your audience to a particular message or information.

WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE TO THE UPCOMING GRAPHIC DESIGNERS WHO WANT TO VENTURE INTO THIS TRADE?

My advice for them is to be very open minded. Inspiration is derived from things that can or have been comprehended. They need to have a wide knowledge in diversified areas. They need not to be discouraged if the result of their works doesn’t turn out well, every good designer doesn’t expect it to be excellent immediately. Just keep on doing it, the more you do it, the better it becomes.
